The University of North Carolina at Pembroke’s College of Health Sciences is seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to serve as the Founding Program Director for its Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) program. This full‑time faculty/administrative position is responsible for the strategic leadership, development, and management of the MHA program, including curriculum design, faculty recruitment, student success, accreditation compliance, and industry partnerships. The Program Director will oversee all aspects of the program and will work closely with the Dean, faculty, advisory boards, and external partners to ensure the MHA program remains innovative and aligned with current industry and academic standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Terminal Degree (PhD, DBA, DHA, EdD, MD). If the terminal degree is not in healthcare administration or a closely related field, a doctoral degree with a Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA) or equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Experience: Seven years of combined field experience and progressively responsible academic roles (program director, chair, assessment director/coordinator).
  • Knowledge and Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare systems, policies, and management practices; proven track record in curriculum development, program evaluation, and accreditation processes; strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills; experience with innovative teaching methods, including online and hybrid delivery; ability to manage financial resources, budgeting, and resource allocation.

  • Experience with CAHME accreditation and maintaining program compliance.
  • Active involvement in professional organizations related to healthcare administration.
  • A record of research, publication, or contributions to the field of healthcare administration or health policy.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership and Administration (40%): Provide strategic vision and leadership for the MHA program to ensure alignment with the university and college goals. Oversee the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of the curriculum. Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and manage preparation of self‑studies, reports, and reviews. Collaborate with the Dean, Chair, faculty, and advisory boards to develop long‑term strategic plans for program growth and sustainability.
  • Curriculum Development and Evaluation (15%): Develop and regularly update a responsive curriculum that reflects industry trends and employer needs. Lead program assessment and evaluation, including development of key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor student learning outcomes. Integrate evidence‑based teaching methodologies, technology, and interprofessional education opportunities. Ensure the curriculum incorporates critical skills such as leadership, data analytics, health policy, financial management, and operational excellence. Teach nine (9) credits of graduate courses during an academic calendar.
  • Faculty Recruitment, Development, and Supervision (10%): Recruit, mentor, and support a diverse faculty team with expertise in healthcare administration and related fields. Provide guidance and resources for professional development to maintain high teaching and research standards. Foster a collaborative, student‑centered teaching environment emphasizing continuous improvement.
  • Student Recruitment, Advising, and Success Initiatives (15%): Collaborate with admissions to develop effective student recruitment and enrollment strategies. Provide academic advising and mentorship to MHA students, ensuring progression, retention, and career readiness. Promote a student‑centered culture that fosters professional development and leadership. Monitor student success metrics and implement initiatives to support achievement and career readiness.
  • Accreditation and Compliance (5%): Lead the MHA program through accreditation and reaccreditation processes, ensuring compliance with CAHME standards. Maintain documentation, assessment records, and data reporting required by accrediting agencies.
  • External Partnerships and Community Engagement (10%): Develop partnerships with healthcare organizations, alumni, and industry professionals for internships, guest lectures, and job placements. Engage in outreach to enhance program visibility and reputation regionally and nationally. Represent the program at professional conferences, industry events, and community forums.
  • Research, Scholarship, and Professional Development (5%): Engage in scholarly activities related to healthcare administration to advance the program’s academic reputation. Present at conferences, contribute to publications, and participate in professional organizations.
