This position is an essential role within the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Department. The primary purpose is to provide irrigation system management for the entire campus, including roadway medians and athletic fields, and to assist in the implementation of a turf care program.
Responsibilities:
- Provide irrigation system care for campus, athletic fields, satellite locations, intramural field, and roadway medians.
- Troubleshoot and maintain simple to moderately complex irrigation system issues, including pumps, motors, pressurised tanks, controls, time clocks, solenoid valves, and sprinkler heads.
- Maintain inventory of existing systems, reporting needs to the Grounds Manager and ensuring adequate stock.
- Create and maintain all as-built drawings of existing systems.
- Assist Grounds Manager in irrigation system reviews, project scopes for expansions, major repairs, and installation of new systems.
- Lead start-up of irrigation systems for the growing season and winterize systems for winter months.
- Ensure systems operate in coordination with campus events (Sunday–Saturday, day and evening).
- Assist in planning projects to achieve maintenance standards, turf care, soil testing, and nutrient and irrigation strategies.
- Perform campus appearance duties using mowers, trimmers, edgers, sprayers, and other grounds equipment.
- Handle equipment maintenance and reporting of issues to Grounds Manager.
- Respond to coverage needs during normal campus business hours, short-staff situations, and events outside normal hours.
- All work is subject to close review and inspection by the Grounds Manager.
Qualifications:
- Three to five years of directly related experience in facilities or grounds maintenance.
- High school diploma or equivalent; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
- Valid driver's license.
- Valid North Carolina pesticide license (must be obtained within one year if not currently held).
- Valid North Carolina pesticide applicator license (state requirement).
- Ability to perform physically strenuous activities, including operation of heavy equipment and handling large quantities of supplies.
- Ability to work weekdays, evenings, and weekends as required.
Benefits:
- Full-time (FTE 1) non-exempt.
- Compensation range: $41,736 – $50,000 with anticipated hiring range of $50,000.
- Direct deposit pay.
- First shift schedule, 8-5.
- 12 months per year.
Environment:
- Work in outdoor settings including campus, athletic fields, and part of event coverage.
- Background check required.
