About the Role
The Senior Lecturer in Speech Pathology will contribute across three core academic domains: Teaching and Learning, Research and Educational Scholarship, and Service and Engagement, in alignment with the University of Newcastle’s Looking Ahead Strategic Plan. You will deliver high‑quality education through the design, coordination, and teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate courses. Drawing on evidence‑based scholarship and/or professional expertise, you will develop and evaluate innovative curricula that advance the strategic priorities of the School of Health Sciences and the College of Health, Medicine and Wellbeing. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to the University’s mission of excellence in education, research, and community service. You will be part of a collegial academic community committed to innovation, inclusivity, and positive impact across the region and beyond.
About you
You will maintain a strong presence across the School, collaborating with colleagues within Speech Pathology, across allied health disciplines, and in other Schools delivering relevant coursework. You will build research partnerships across the University, the profession, and industry, and actively contribute to University research networks. The role includes leading and expanding research and scholarship in Speech Pathology, as well as strengthening multidisciplinary collaborations. You will be interested in teaching across speech pathology range of practice areas, including fluency and professional issues. To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Expertise: A PhD in Speech Pathology or a related field, and current or eligible membership with Speech Pathology Australia.
- High-Quality Research: A strong record of high‑quality publications or non‑traditional research outputs, with evidence of national or international collaborations and research impact.
- Funding Success: Demonstrated capacity to secure competitive research funding as a chief investigator and to collaborate in ways that create opportunities for early‑career researchers.
- Supervision: Experience supervising Honours, Masters, and Higher Degree by Research students to timely completion.
- Quality Teaching: Evidence of high‑quality teaching demonstrated through student outcomes, feedback, and continuous improvement.
- Leadership in Learning and Teaching: Experience in program convening, course coordination, curriculum design, and integrating teaching innovations into courses.
- Engagement: Strong performance in University service and external engagement, including contributions to professional, community, or international activities.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively and respectfully in collaborative academic environments.
