Under the direct supervision of the Director or designee, the Pharmacy Associate I will function as a team member for the client programs within Clinical Pharmacy Services (CPS). CPS is responsible for administering client-specific programs to provide clinical expertise regarding our members' medications. This position will handle calls with members, prescribers, and pharmacists to provide and obtain information regarding client-specific initiatives. The incumbent of this position will assist in the sorting of medication prior authorization requests, under the guidance of a licensed pharmacist.

Responsibilities

  • Review medication information, call member, and record the call outcome in a pharmacy database.
  • Handle outbound and inbound phone calls to members, prescribers, and pharmacists regarding client-specific work.
  • Sort the medication prior authorization requests into appropriate drug class within the client's compliance time frame.
  • Provide information to prescribers and pharmacists regarding member prescriptions.
  • Participate in orientation and/or guidance of Pharmacy Associate I in the performance of their duties.
  • Follow UMass Chan and CPS policies and procedures.
  • Assist CPS staff with data entry, medication monitoring, and insurance eligibility for ad hoc reports and client work.
  • Assist CPS consultant pharmacist with obtaining and disseminating information concerning client appeals.
  • Participate in CPS staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and in-service programs as requested.
  • Perform other client work as required per client initiative(s).

Qualifications

REQUIRED EDUCATION
High School Graduate or GED

REQUIRED WORK EXPERIENCE
Some pharmacy related experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION
Licensed Certificate, active unrestricted MA Pharmacy Technician License and/or active unrestricted National Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT).

PREFERRED WORK EXPERIENCE
Bilingual, Spanish preferred.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Attention to detail and organization.
Ability to work in a high volume, fast-paced call center environment.
Ability to work well in a team.
Dependability.
Computer Skills – Basic understanding of Word, Excel, Outlook.
