POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Clinical Manager or designee, this role provides administrative support for DES skilled professional medical personnel, including physicians, psychologists, and program managers. The Disability Assistant handles complex decisions regarding protected healthcare information, following HIPAA regulations. The position involves administrative and clerical responsibilities, acting as a primary customer service interface for clients and external agencies.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review disability supplements for accuracy and completeness, and alert SPMP of priority cases and clinical information.
- Make decisions regarding privacy and information exchange in compliance with HIPAA, documenting decisions thoroughly.
- Request clinical information from treating sources, ensuring HIPAA compliance.
- Coordinate with external databases to facilitate case processing.
- Distribute new cases to appropriate staff and manage case follow-ups.
- Coordinate transportation for clients to examinations and communicate with SPMP about case impacts.
- Provide customer service via phone, managing inquiries and scheduling.
- Make decisions on rescheduling evaluations, providing feedback to SPMP.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates degree or equivalent in business or related field
- 3-5 years office experience, preferably in healthcare
- Knowledge of HIPAA laws
- Proficiency in Word, Access, Excel, Outlook
- Ability to interpret HIPAA regulations for clients and agencies
- Strong customer service and problem-solving skills
- Discretion handling confidential information
