Senate House Library Senate House Library is the central library for the University of London and the School of Advanced Study.
Also serving the wider national scholarly community and the university’s 40,000 distance learners, it is one of the UK’s largest academic libraries for arts, humanities & social sciences with over 2 million books, 50 special collections and 1,800 archival collections.
The Library and its collections have been continuously developed since the 1870s and include many unique and rare treasures.
This is a significant moment in the Library’s history and an exciting time to work with us as we undertake an ambitious programme of investment and change through the Library Transformation Programme, which will increase the visibility of the Library and its unique collections to the international scholarly community.
A critical component of the Programme is to strengthen our digital offer, and in particular to promote and increase digital access to our collections.
The Role Digitisation Coordinator The successful candidate will take on an exciting role in the fast-developing area of digitisation and preservation, supporting the delivery of the Library’s ambitious new digitisation vision.
The Digitisation Coordinator will manage our small Digitisation Studio, where we carry out in-house digitisation work, and will line manage the Digitisation Officer.
They will also coordinate work related to our publisher, internal and grant-funded digitisation projects.
Additionally, working with the Metadata & Discovery Manager and other SHL colleagues, they will contribute to the implementation of new workflows and procedures which maximise the online visibility of our unique special collections.
The successful candidate requires an understanding of current and emerging digital preservation strategies, and the ways metadata is used to link digital resources to their physical copies on a catalogue.
An enquiring mind, with an ability to problem-solve while working effectively with all levels of staff is essential.

Typically, the majority of employees will be able to agree to work remotely for up to 60% of their working week, role dependent, however will be required to attend on specific days for training or team meetings.
