We are inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in Roman Archaeology to join Connective Frontiers: Inclusive Heritage of Roman Frontiers, a UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship hosted at the Institute of Classical Studies (ICS), School of Advanced Study, University of London. The post, in partnership with English Heritage, offers an opportunity to apply expertise to an interdisciplinary project that brings together archaeological research, heritage interpretation, and contemporary debates around borders, identity, imperialism, and decolonial approaches.
Responsibilities
- Conduct collaborative research on the finds assemblage from the Roman military base at Housesteads and Corbridge.
- Deliver an online database of objects, produce a catalogue of objects, and carry out primary, category specific and spatial research on the assemblage.
- Inform the redevelopment of the permanent exhibition at the Housesteads site and a temporary exhibition at Corbridge.
- Work in close partnership with the English Heritage team in Corbridge, including the curator and interpretative, design and education teams.
- Co-create interpretative approaches to frontiers and borderlands in Roman past and contribute to research culminating in a temporary project exhibition at Corbridge.
Qualifications
- PhD or equivalent in Roman archaeology, material culture or a related field.
- Expertise in the archaeology of Roman frontiers and experience with material culture.
- Ability to work independently and within a collaborative, intersectoral team.
- Experience working with heritage partners, museums or collections is desirable.
- Strong research record, good communication skills, and a proactive, self-motivated approach.
