The Inclusionaries Lab ( https://inclusionaries.com ) is looking for an Inclusive User-Centred Design Researcher to lead co-design and design ethnography projects in the MedTech and Assistive Technology hardware* sectors. In this role, you’ll work closely with people with disabilities, clinicians, and engineers to develop cutting-edge, inclusive hardware and physical products that make life-changing impact.
*Please note, this is a hardware related role, not a UX/UI/software related role.
Responsibilities
- Conduct design ethnography (interviews, observations, prototype testing) to deeply understand user requirements & desires, and synthesise insights into design input documentation.
- Lead co-design workshops and participatory research projects from start to finish, including study plans, ethics applications, participant recruitment, data collection & analysis, and report writing.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to define and create meaningful user-centred solutions.
- Advocate for inclusive user-centred design processes throughout a range of Assistive Technology hardware R&D projects.
Qualifications & Experience
- Experience managing the design and development of Assistive Technology products (hardware) and applying user-centred design processes.
- A research degree in Co-Design, User-Centred or Inclusive Product Design.
- Experience in leading user-centred design research, ethnographic studies, and usability testing.
- Familiarity with ethical processes in research involving vulnerable populations.
- Proficiency in data collection and analysis.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including a strong track-record for academic publishing, report writing, and delivering presentations/workshops.
- Ability to be adaptable, self-motivated, a creative problem solver, and a good communicator with an entrepreneurial mindset.
Candidate should be based in the UK and available to start this role between March – May 2025.
