About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Research Associate in Health Economics to join the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences. You will work under the supervision of Professor Lily Yao.

You will support systematic reviews, manage large datasets, conduct economic analyses alongside clinical trials, and develop decision-analytic models as required. Additionally, a small teaching and administrative commitment is expected as part of these roles. This role provides excellent opportunities to work in multidisciplinary teams, collaborating with clinicians, statisticians, and trial management groups.

You will initially be working on the following projects:

  1. United Kingdom Arm of the Transfusion Requirements in Younger Patients Undergoing Cardiac Surgery TRICS IV) Trial: An international, multi-centre, randomized trial to assess the clinical and cost-effectiveness of liberal transfusion thresholds in younger patients undergoing cardiac surgery. This project is funded by the NIHR HTA.
  2. Mixed methods co-design and evaluation of a Decision Support Tool to enable shared decision making for people who are considering cascade screening for Thoracic Aortic Disease: The DECIDE TAD Programme. This project is funded by the NIHR PGfAR.

You will be a member of the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences and be expected to fully contribute to that community. You will also be expected to draw on academic experience to underpin and carry out activities across a range of areas of academic and university life, aligned with the University’s strategic themes of ‘World Changing Research’ and ‘Our Citizens,’ together with the University values.

About you

You are a highly motivated and experienced researcher with a PhD (or equivalent experience) in health economics, and a strong track record in conducting economic evaluations alongside clinical trials. You bring extensive experience in developing analytical models and managing large datasets, and you’re proficient in statistical software such as SAS, R or Stata.

With a developing national or international research profile, you have contributed to successful grant applications and produced high-quality, peer-reviewed publications. You are adept at working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, including clinicians, statisticians, and trial managers, and have the communication skills to engage effectively with both academic and non-academic audiences.

You thrive in a dynamic research environment, are committed to continuous professional development, and are keen to contribute to impactful health research. Your organisational skills allow you to manage complex projects and meet key milestones, while your enthusiasm for mentorship and knowledge sharing supports the development of others within your team.

You align with the University’s values of inclusivity, inspiration, and impact, and are excited to contribute to a vibrant academic community making a real difference in cardiovascular health.
