The Centre for International Training and Education is seeking an experienced EAP Coordinator to join the course management team responsible for delivering the University of Leicester’s English for Academic Purposes provision in partnership with Chongqing Medical University. This is a fixed-term post for ten months based in China and in Leicester.
The role is based at Chongqing Medical University’s Jinyun campus during teaching semesters and at the University of Leicester during vacation and summer periods. You will help coordinate, review, develop and deliver two 30-credit Year 1 EAP modules for students studying dual-award BSc programmes in Clinical Sciences, Psychology and Physiotherapy.
Working closely with the Centre Manager and teaching team, you will support the day-to-day management of the programmes, staff and students. You will take responsibility for a small team of teachers, lead meetings and standardisation activities, contribute to staff development, and support the consistent implementation of programme processes and expectations.
You will also undertake a teaching commitment and contribute to assessment design and delivery, materials development, quality assurance, student tutorials, engagement monitoring and curriculum review. The role requires flexibility and the ability to respond effectively to the changing needs of collaborative provision delivered across the UK and China.
The post is full-time. It includes periods of work in both Chongqing and Leicester, with travel, accommodation and related support provided in accordance with the terms of the appointment.
About you
You will be a suitably qualified and experienced English for Academic Purposes practitioner with a recognised British Council TEFLQ qualification, such as a DELTA. You will have substantial experience of teaching English as a Foreign Language, including experience of delivering pre-sessional or in-sessional EAP within a university context.
You will have strong knowledge of English language systems and skills and be able to deliver high-quality, communicative lessons that respond to different levels of linguistic competence. You will be confident using digital tools, including Microsoft 365, Teams and virtual learning environments, to support teaching, communication and materials development.
Collaborative and adaptable, you will work effectively both independently and as part of a team. You will be able to manage competing priorities, meet tight deadlines and respond appropriately to challenging or unpredictable situations. You will also demonstrate the cultural awareness and professional judgement needed to work successfully with students and colleagues from a range of backgrounds.
Experience of teaching overseas or working with Chinese-speaking learners would be advantageous. Experience of materials writing, assessment or course design, STEM-related teaching, transnational education, and leading small teams or staff-development activities would also be beneficial.
