Tutor in Arts and Humanities (Part-time)

The Arts and Humanities Foundation Year programme is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills for progression to a range of degree programmes in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. You will contribute to the Level 0 teaching team for delivery of the 20 credit semester one optional module ‘LLLC0121 Image, Music and Text’ (60% of teaching role) and the 20 credit semester two optional module ‘LLLC0143 Communications’ (40% of teaching role).
Teaching on the two Level 0 modules will provide an introduction to current thinking and approaches relating to the study of Arts, Humanities and Cultures for foundation year learners as appropriate to module learning outcomes. Working with the Module Leaders and Programme Manager, you will contribute to preparation, delivery, academic tutorials, student support and assessment for these modules. Teaching will include the delivery of a strand of creative and subject‑specific skills workshops, alongside interactive hybrid lecture‑seminar sessions.Teaching for Image, Music and Text is scheduled on Tuesdays in Semester 1 and teaching for Communications is scheduled for Fridays in Semester 2.
LLLC0121 Image, Music and Text
This semester one module explores how image, music and text interact to convey ideas and shape creative practice. Students develop a critical and creative awareness of module themes via development of critical analysis of creative works and the production of their own creative piece.The part‑time tutor will deliver approximately 6 weeks of module teaching, including preparation time and student academic support within the module. The focus of these interdisciplinary sessions will contribute to existing module teaching that covers topics of image, film, music and audio.This includes consideration of theoretical ideas and aspects of creative practice relating to film, image, music, podcast, websites, digital storytelling etc. You would be responsible for delivering hybrid lecture‑seminars, creative workshops, academic tutorial / office hour support within the module, and summative assessment of the creative assignment, as well as advising students on a range of creative practices and processes.
LLLC0143 Communications
This semester two optional module explores issues relating to contemporary communications and media, including digital media, analysing media texts, and exploring real world examples. Students develop understanding of media and society, contemporary media issues and media literacies.The module learning outcomes support students to critcally engage with interdisciplinary issues and developments in contemporary communication. Module assessment takes the form of presentations and an essay. You will contribute approximately four weeks of module teaching, including interactive hybrid lecture‑seminars and academic skills workshops, as well as preparation for these taught sessions, and academic tutorial support/ office hours within the module. These sessions will engage with module themes around digital networks, representation, social media communications and media theory. Your role will include contributing to delivery and supporting assessment.
