Overview

The Research Operations team is part of the Central Finance Service and works with the Research & Innovation Service and Faculty Research and Innovation Offices to provide end-to-end pre- and post-award management of a research grants and contracts portfolio of around £180m p.a. The team sets the framework for seven Faculty Research and Innovation Offices (FRIOs) and central Research and Innovation teams, and provides support and training, leads on systems development and maintenance, research finance, risk assessment, quality assurance and compliance. As part of the Research Operations team, you will help maintain operational efficiency and support the University’s strategic research objectives and culture, providing pro-active support across a range of activities, overseeing administrative processes, and ensuring the integrity and quality of research support data.

Location and working arrangement: Based on the university campus with scope for hybrid working and flexible arrangements. Note: some visa considerations apply.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee various administrative processes within the Research Operations team and maintain/improve research support systems and processes.
  • Ensure the integrity and quality of research support data; support end-to-end management of a high-value grants and contracts portfolio.
  • Provide proactive support across activities; contribute to operational efficiency and alignment with the University’s research objectives and culture.
  • Support and training for central and faculty-based staff; lead on systems development, compliance, risk assessment, and quality assurance as required.

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage time efficiently in a flexible, pro-active working environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • High level administrative experience and the ability to provide administrative support within a research operations context.
