We are looking for an apprentice eager to start their career as a Laboratory Research Technician. As an apprentice you will provide support to the X‑ray Analytical Facilities in the Bragg Centre for Materials Research within the Faculty of Engineering Physical Sciences apprenticeship scheme. The right apprentice will have a technical mindset and a passion for science and technology to support cutting‑edge research in materials characterization.

Responsibilities

  • You will gain hands‑on experience in advanced X‑ray scattering techniques to help researchers push the boundaries of knowledge in materials science, supporting experiments that reveal the structure and properties of natural and engineered materials.
  • You will be mentored by senior researchers in the laboratories and given specific training in this area.

Training & Development

As part of our apprenticeship technical training scheme you will be placed on the Chemical Scientist Degree Apprenticeship level 6, offered by Manchester Metropolitan University. The apprenticeship lasts four years and includes online teaching one day per week. On completion of your training you will have an ideal skill set to pursue a successful career as a research technician and may have the opportunity to progress into a permanent role at the University.
