Are you passionate about supporting the development of students in a Dental Laboratory setting? Do you have full Dental Nursing Registration with the UK General Dental Council? You will be involved with supporting the teaching of students within the BChD, Dental Hygiene and Therapy and postgraduate programmes within the School of Dentistry. You will ensure that appropriate and comparable clinical standards are maintained in the clinical skills settings, with special reference to health and safety and infection prevention, and that this learning is transferred to clinical placement settings outside of the School of Dentistry.

You will be a fully registered Dental Nurse with relevant post-qualification experience and full UK General Dental Council registration. You will be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to manage your time effectively and build relationships with staff and students. Occasional Saturday working to cover courses on an overtime basis would be required from time to time.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Providing support across all the clinical skills teaching laboratories, assisting in the delivery of practical classes;
  • Preparation and delivery of specific modules, liaising with senior clinical staff plus support staff to deliver an excellent teaching;
  • Supporting with the laboratory set up for examinations, continuous assessments and assignments for students within the clinical skills setting;
  • Working collaboratively with the Clinical Skills team and clinical tutors/teachers, and support staff;
  • Assisting the instructors and other members of the Clinical Skills team in general tidying and preparation work for all areas of the Clinical Skills Classrooms;
  • Responsibility for the supervision of clinical skills relevant to registration and scope of practice as decreed by the General Dental Council. In particular, you will be involved in pre-clinical training, and in smoothing the transition from the clinical skills lab to treating patients on the clinic;
  • Participating in the undergraduate candidate selection process, including promotion of the School of Dentistry via avenues such as open days, school visits and involvement in the interview process.

These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Other reasonable duties may be required consistent with the grade of the post. This role will require occasional weekend work, to support provision of HEE courses within the Clinical Skills labs.
