The School of Media and Communication is a highly‑ranked department with a commitment to excellence in both research and teaching. We are ranked 4th in the UK for Communication and Media Studies (The Times and the Sunday Times Good University Guide 2026) and 33rd in the world for Communication and Media Studies (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2026). In the last Research Excellence Framework exercise, 87.5% of our research was judged to be either ‘world leading’ or ‘internationally excellent’.

We seek to appoint a Lecturer with expertise in critical approaches to algorithms, AI and automation; games, immersive and experiential media; and/or platform and social media studies. The successful candidate will be expected to enhance the School’s research and teaching activities in media and communication and work with colleagues to develop our international profile and standing. Applications are welcome from candidates whose research explores any aspect of media and communication, and whose work complements or contributes to the School’s existing research strengths and themes.
