The Role:

Teaching Fellow – Data Science

Background:

We are significantly investing and contributing to the AI world of today and tomorrow – and this investment brings a fantastic opportunity for a Teaching Fellow to join us at the Centre of Excellence on a fixed term, 1 year basis. The ideal candidate will build our research and knowledge exchange strengths within DAIM, along with enhancing academic support and teaching provision for our students. After all, you’ll be educating the next generation of data scientists and artificial intelligence practitioners, responding to the increasing need in this field, and conducting high quality research which cuts across traditional disciplinary departmental and faculty boundaries.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The ideal candidates will have excellent communication and personal supervision skills and be able to engage, motivate and support students. They will be expected to make significant contributions to supporting the academic progress of students, to support teaching, and to deliver a positive impact on the student experience. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to provide teaching support across a number of subject areas relevant to DAIM and who complement and enhance the overall disciplinary balance within DAIM.

Required:

Ideally you will hold a good degree, and a PhD or equivalent (or have submitted your PhD prior to commencement), with experience in teaching and research. We also recognise the value that significant and relevant work experience can bring to an individual’s skillset, particularly, if you have experience in at least one aspect of Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, or Python programming. We are particularly interested in candidates with AI expertise in Healthcare or Engineering.

Selection Criteria:

  • A good degree, and a PhD or equivalent which at minimum must be submitted prior to commencement. (Essential, Shortlisting)
  • Demonstrable background through teaching, research, or career experience in at least one aspect of: Artificial Intelligence, Data Science and Modelling. (Essential, Shortlisting, Interview)
  • Ability to teach effectively at undergraduate and postgraduate level in a variety of teaching modes (Essential, Shortlisting, Interview)
  • An extensive knowledge and understanding of undergraduate and postgraduate education within a relevant discipline (Essential, Interview)
  • Working in an open and transparent way, providing information and communicating effectively with colleagues (i.e., evidence of good collegial academic citizenship) (Essential, Interview)
  • Expertise in an area of interest to DAIM. (Desirable, Shortlisting, Interview)
