Senior Lecturer in Paramedic Science

Location: College Lane Campus, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield
FTE: 0.4FTE (working 14.8 hours per week) – 1.0FTE (working 37 hours per week). Potentially flexible higher or lower FTE.
Duration of Contract: Permanent
Salary: UH8 £46,049pa pro rata to £58,225pa, with annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience.
Annual Leave: 35 days pro‑rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days during the office closure between Christmas and New Year.
Main duties and responsibilities
You will be responsible for the teaching and assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate paramedic students at the University or at their placement or place of work.
You will utilise the current evidence base to underpin teaching and learning activities.
You may participate in the development and reviews of programmes, including inter‑professional developments across the School, and contribute to curriculum development; this includes developing, delivering and teaching on short courses, modules and programmes.
You will contribute to the administration of the School by undertaking additional roles, such as being a module lead and joining teams involved in activities such as admissions, timetabling or pastoral support.
You will also be expected to undertake and contribute to paramedic research, and liaise with and maintain good relationships with academic, administrative, technical and clinical colleagues.
Skills and experience required
You will be an experienced practising paramedic with HCPC registration and recent academic and/or clinical experience in the UK or an equivalent setting. You will have a broad experience of relevant paramedic practice and demonstrate a sustained interest and knowledge of contemporary practice.
It is essential that you have good oral and written communication skills and proficiency in English. You will demonstrate a willingness to undertake paramedic research and be able to work effectively as part of a team.
You will be able to work without close supervision, organise yourself and others, take initiative, be self‑motivating, and be adaptable to change and flexible to team and workload requirements. A willingness to contribute to inter‑professional teaching and learning activities, with an interest in evidence‑based healthcare, is key.
Qualifications required
You will be educated to a minimum of a Master’s degree or be working towards a Master’s degree (or equivalent level 7 qualification) in a relevant subject. Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Paramedic is essential.
