On the 1 August 2026, the University of Greenwich and the University of Kent formed a pioneering new multi-university group called London and South-East (LASE) University Group.
Should you join us, you will be employed by LASE but will work as part of the University of Greenwich academic division, contributing to its distinct strengths, community and identity while also being part of a wider group that brings together the scale, resilience and shared ambition of both universities.
Through LASE we aim to deliver outstanding education, impactful research, and meaningful regional and global impact.
This post is based within the Centre for Safety, Resilience and Protective Security (CSRPS), a Centre that seeks to advance societal safety, resilience, and security through interdisciplinary research, innovation, and industry collaboration. The Centre focuses on addressing complex challenges in fire safety engineering, disaster resilience, protective security, crowd safety, and airborne pathogen dispersion. A key strength of CSRPS is the depth of integration between engineering, mathematics, computer science, and behavioural science, recognising that an understanding of human behaviour is fundamental to addressing complex safety and security challenges.
This new role will provide leadership for behavioural science research across the full range of CSRPS's activities, advancing understanding of human behaviour in relation to safety, security, resilience, emergency response, public health protection, and the design and operation of the built environment. Working closely with colleagues across disciplines, the post holder will foster collaboration and drive the development of innovative, evidence-based approaches that enhance the Centre's impact on public safety and policy. In this role you will also be expected to lead the development of CSRPS's disaster resilience portfolio, providing strategic direction for disaster resilience activities, building capability and capacity across the Centre, and helping establish CSRPS as a leading voice in research and practice relating to disaster preparedness, response, recovery, and adaptation.
For an informal discussion about the post please contact Aoife Hunt (A.L.Hunt@greenwich.ac.uk) or Steve Gwynne (S.Gwynne@greenwich.ac.uk).
