On 1st August 2026, The University of Greenwich and the University of Kent formed a pioneering new multi-university group called London and South- East (LASE) University Group.
Should you join us, you will be employed by LASE but will work as part of the University of Greenwich academic division, contributing to its distinct strengths, community and identity while also being part of a wider group that brings together the scale, resilience and shared ambition of both universities.
Through LASE we aim to deliver outstanding education, impactful research, and meaningful regional and global impact.
The Natural Resources Institute (NRI), within the Faculty of Engineering and Science at the University of Greenwich, undertakes interdisciplinary research addressing major global challenges in food systems, agriculture, health, livelihoods and sustainable development. The post will be based in NRI’s Livelihoods and Institutions Department and will form part of IP-STATS, a five-year ERC-funded project advancing epistemically diverse quantitative research on Indigenous Peoples’ food systems.
We are seeking a Research Fellow specialising in Indigenous Peoples’ data governance. Working with an interdisciplinary and intercultural team and Indigenous Peoples’ organisations and communities, the post-holder will lead and contribute to research on Indigenous data sovereignty, Indigenous-led quantitative methodologies and the governance of food-systems data. Responsibilities include:
- Co-designing research questions
- Methods and governance arrangements
- Reviewing data-governance frameworks and statistical systems
- Supporting culturally respectful fieldwork and partner engagement
- Helping develop, pilot and disseminate the IP-STATS toolkit with partners in Ghana, Tanzania, Uganda, Peru, Nepal, India, Sri Lanka and Kyrgyzstan.
Essential requirements include long-term lived experience that has developed substantive knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Peoples’ cultures, rights, priorities and contemporary issues, together with the ability to communicate effectively, respectfully and inclusively with Indigenous communities. Experience of collaborative research across cultures and knowledge traditions is also essential. Candidates who self-identify as Indigenous are particularly encouraged to apply.
