Job Purpose

The Project Officer – Community Engagement & Support plays a key role in supporting the ongoing development, delivery, and evaluation of the Community & Inclusion project, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and a strong focus on student needs. This role contributes to the planning, coordination, and implementation of initiatives that promote student engagement, inclusion, and wellbeing, while also supporting the improvement of induction activities to ensure they are inclusive, student-informed, and welcoming. Working collaboratively across teams—including Community Support, Induction & Transition, and Enquiry Support—the postholder helps enhance the student experience at all stages of the student lifecycle, contributing to initiatives that strengthen students’ sense of belonging and mattering, working closely with staff networks, university-wide programmes, and student organisations.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1.Deliver effective project support across Student & Academic Services teams, including data collection, analysis, and reporting, as well as contributing to the design and implementation of service improvement initiatives—such as student engagement, community-building events, induction enhancements, and enquiry support.

2.Provide insight grounded in student perspective, lived experience and sector experience to inform project planning and service design, ensuring user needs are embedded throughout, including providing tailored training and development to enhance staff understanding of students’ expectations, challenges, and concerns.

3.Support the implementation of projects as part of cross-functional teams, helping to achieve intended outcomes and benefits. This includes offering constructive challenge during all stages of the project lifecycle and contributing to evaluation and reporting.

4.Ensure compliance with university-wide policies and procedures, particularly in relation to data protection, confidentiality, and the secure handling of personal information. Additionally, adhere to standard operating procedures and team-specific practices across Student & Academic Services.

5.Undertake a broad range of project-related tasks as directed by the Line Manager or Project Lead. These may include facilitating focus groups, conducting internal and external research, supporting front-line service delivery, preparing reports, organising events, and presenting findings to stakeholders across university services, colleges, and schools.

6.Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for service innovation, suggesting enhancements, and supporting the implementation of new processes that improve service quality and student outcomes.

7.Engage in relevant professional development activities , keeping up to date with best practices and acquiring skills to support effective service delivery and project contribution.

Knowledge, qualifications, skills and experience

Knowledge/qualifications

Essential:

A1 Either: Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar role. Or Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 7 (Advanced Higher / Scottish Vocational Qualification level 3, Higher National Certificate) or equivalent, and experience of personal development in a similar role.

A2 Strong IT knowledge, including Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint.

A3 Knowledge of the lived student experience and how it varies across level of study and student cohort.

Desirable:

B1 Knowledge of University systems, e.g. PIP, CMIS, MyCampus, Moodle, T4.

B2 Knowledge and understanding of Higher Education structures, policy, practices and procedures.

**Desirable: **D1 Ability to support formal meetings, including preparation of papers, meeting organisation, note taking and communication of actions. D2 Ability to support and contribute to project management.

Experience Essential:

E1 Elected lead officer (President, Vice President, Secretary) experience in one of the four Glasgow student organisations with evidence of responsibility and delivery gained in a busy student focussed environment. E2 Experience of advocating student interest and partnership working with staff to design, deliver, implement service and experience improvement, comprising use of data and feedback to inform change.

Desirable:

F1 Experience of working in university professional services.

F2 Experience of project development and delivery.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 5, £27,319 - £31,236 per annum pro rata.

This post is from 21hrs per week up to full time and fixed term for up to 12 months from start date
