Job Description

Job Purpose

To contribute to the delivery of an excellent student experience by designing new blended learning materials for the core course HIST5008 Gender, Politics and Power (GPP) for the MSc Gender History Programme Convenor and supporting the delivery of the LTDF-funded project ‘Transforming a PGT Course for Blended Learning’. This will involve working with the teaching team to develop an interactive pre-session activity for each of the teaching sessions to assist students in drawing out key learning points from course materials. The teaching activities will be informed by best practice on community building in blended learning environments, and the role will include evaluation and reporting on the roll out of the blended learning methods in the course.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the planning, organisation and design of postgraduate teaching for HIST5008 Gender, Politics and Power.
  • To review recent literature on blended learning approaches and methods, and design templates for pre-sessional learning activities informed by current research.
  • In collaboration with the teaching team, assist with the development of appropriate teaching materials tailored to each session ensuring content and methods of delivery meet determined learning objectives.
  • Contribute to the effective use of blended learning technologies to support and enhance course delivery, course organisation, and feedback.
  • Apply specialist knowledge to teaching that best meet the needs of individuals and groups of learners, ensuring an inclusive and evidence-based approach that promotes student participation and learning outcome attainment.
  • To design and implement an evaluative questionnaire and conduct focus groups with students and staff to review student experiences of the new activities.
  • To analyse and present evaluative research data related to staff and student experiences of blended learning on Gender, Politics and Power.
  • To work as an active member of the project team and undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the project.
  • To contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan.

Knowledge/Qualifications

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Essential

A1 Honours degree (SCQF Level 10) relevant to the teaching area or have expertise in a relevant field, together with an understanding of the principles of teaching, learning and assessment.

A2 Registered for and working towards the achievement of a PhD (MPhil/PhD) or PGT

qualification in a relevant subject.

A3 Expert knowledge of the subject area.
