Job Purpose
You will contribute to the Participatory Harm Auditing Workbenches and Methodologies (PHAWM) project, funded by Responsible AI UK, working with Dr. Mark Wong. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the design of training content and curriculum on participatory auditing of AI using PHAWM’s workbenches and methodologies; communicate PHAWM’s research to non‑expert audiences; deliver training for, and engage with, external partners and stakeholders; promote PHAWM’s training campaign; evaluate training outcomes and potentially formulate other public‑facing or academic outputs as well as helping to manage and direct the impact and communication goals of this complex and challenging project.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and conduct assigned research, training development, and research communication activities individually or jointly in accordance with the project deliverables and the School/College research strategy.
- Document research and training curriculum/content including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, designing training materials, assets and resources, and drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate.
- Contribute to the development, organisation, and delivery of training in a manner that supports a research‑led or other cutting‑edge approaches to technology communication, research communication, and relevant pedagogy.
- Apply specialist knowledge to contribute to the design of training (and other required materials or engagement) ensuring the content, delivery methods, and communication of PHAWM’s research meet determined training objectives on participatory AI auditing.
- Develop and enhance your research profile and reputation and that of The University of Glasgow/School/Project, including contributing to publications, training, and outputs of international quality in high‑profile/quality refereed publications where appropriate, enhancing the research impact in terms of economic/societal benefit, and gathering indicators of esteem.
- Contribute to the presentation of work at international and national conferences, at internal and external events/seminars, colloquia and workshops, and relevant trade/sector magazines, newsletters, blogs, or other media to develop and enhance our research profile internally and externally.
- Contribute to the identification of potential funding sources and to assist in the development of proposals to secure funding from internal and external bodies to support future research and/or impact acceleration.
- Collaborate with colleagues and participate in team meetings, seminars, workshops across the Project/Division/School/College/University and wider community.
- Contribute to the organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of undergraduate and/or postgraduate students and less experienced members of the project team to ensure their effective development.
- Perform administrative tasks related to the activities of the Project, Division, and School, including budgets and expenditure.
- Carry out modest teaching activities (e.g. tutoring) and associated admin as assigned by the Head of School and in consultation with the Principal Investigator or Line Manager.
- Keep up to date with current knowledge and recent advances in the field/discipline.
- Engage in continuing professional development activities as appropriate.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as required by the Head of School/Principal Investigator/Line Manager.
- Contribute to the enhancement of the University’s international profile in line with the University Strategy.
Knowledge & Qualifications
Essential:
- A1. SCQF Level 10 (Honours degree) in a relevant subject or a cognate discipline (e.g., science/technology communication, education/lifelong learning, research communication, corporate/technology training), or equivalent.
- A2. Specialist theoretical and practical knowledge of training development, technology/science communication, and/or STEM or adult education, or equivalent.
- A3. A comprehensive and up‑to‑date knowledge of the aforementioned areas or subject specialisms.
Desirable:
- B1. Professional qualifications in training, science/technology communication, or education or lifelong learning.
- B2. An awarded (or recently submitted or near completion) SCQF Level 11 (MSc) or SCQF Level 12 (PhD) in relevant subject specialisms or equivalent.
- B3. A working knowledge of AI, digital technologies, digital/AI literacy, or other technical or STEM specialisms.

- E1. Sufficient relevant research, training, or engagement experience (or equivalent) appropriate to an early career level.
- E2. Experience of working with a diverse range of stakeholders, such as practitioners, professionals, members of the public, or marginalised communities.
- E3. Experience of delivering, organising, and developing new training programmes/curricular.
- E4. Experience of scientific writing and/or science/technology communication, adult or STEM education, lifelong learning, or research communication activities.
- E5. Proven ability to deliver quality outputs (e.g. reports, evaluation, and academic or non‑academic writing) in a timely and efficient manner.
- E6. Demonstrated commitment and experience of equitable and inclusive practices in training and education.
Desirable:
- F1. Experience of working in an interdisciplinary team or setting.
- F2. Experience of working with learning technologists and/or educators of specialisms relevant to the project.
- F3. Evidence of an emerging track record of high‑quality research or public‑facing outputs in relevant specialisms.
Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £33,951 – £37,694 per annum pro rata. This is a part‑time (17.5 hours per week) post with funding for up to 18 months. The University of Glasgow requires all employees to be eligible to live and work in the UK; sponsorship under the Skilled Worker visa category is not available for this vacancy.
