Junior Clinician in Small Animal Diagnostic ImagingNew in Glasgow

The University of Glasgow Small Animal Hospital is seeking to recruit a Junior Clinician to join our small animal imaging team as Diagnostic Imaging intern. This position might suit someone who has recently completed a rotating or previous imaging internship and who is looking for the next step towards specialization. Applications are invited from candidates with a veterinary degree registerable with RCVS who have completed a rotating internship or equivalent, possess proof or eligibility for right to work in the UK, an excellent command of written and spoken English and strong communication skills.

You will be joining a friendly Imaging team of European Diagnostic Imaging specialists, advanced practitioners, radiographers and diagnostic imaging interns. Our diagnostic imaging suite includes an on‑site 1.5T MRI, a new 80‑slice CT scanner, digital radiography, and ultrasonography units. Our facilities also include a brand-new linear accelerator, radio‑iodine unit, dedicated ICU and excellent in‑house laboratory.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support the delivery of an efficient and effective small animal imaging referral service by providing clinical activity and help develop the Imaging department, which acts as a hub between a tight‑knit, supportive multidisciplinary team including many specialists working in a wide range of services within our award‑winning state‑of‑the‑art Small Animal Hospital.

Job Purpose
To support an efficient and effective small animal diagnostic imaging referral service by providing clinical activity under the supervision of ECVDI Diplomates and residency‑trained clinicians, as well as participating in the out of hours service and being on call on some evenings and weekends. To contribute to the School objectives relevant to national and international excellence in clinical service, teaching and research.

Clinical
To support the small animal diagnostic imaging referral service by providing, under supervision, a high‑quality service and appropriate advice to external referring practices and owners. To support the development of novel approaches and techniques to aid diagnosis and treatment and exploit the opportunities to enhance the income generation capability of the service. To participate in the out‑of‑hours service, ensuring adequate cover is available for the care of in‑patients, provision of direct supervision of under‑graduate students, and offering external advice when required. To ensure compliance with the continuing professional development requirements of the appropriate speciality and the RCVS.

Teaching
To deliver undergraduate and post‑graduate teaching activities in veterinary medicine in accordance with the established programme. To collaborate in appropriate clinical scholarship projects/trials through a portfolio of individual/joint research projects, to help secure the funding required to underpin the long‑term growth of the activity and to present findings at national and international meetings.

Administration
To contribute to the administrative work of the Hospital/Division as assigned by the Clinical Director/Head of Division. To contribute to the performance and development review processes as appropriate in accordance with university strategy.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

• Essential: Veterinary degree registerable with RCVS. Knowledge of national veterinary regulations and practices.
• Desirable: Prior training and experience in small animal diagnostic imaging. Masters, PhD or other evidence of research training.

Skills

• Essential: High standard of communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Self‑motivated, able to plan for contingencies and think strategically.
• Desirable: Ability to provide veterinary care to small animal patients receiving specialist care in the small animal hospital.

Experience

• Essential: Post‑graduate clinical experience in small animal veterinary medicine (rotating internship – 12 months in a university/academic setting or 24 months in a private/referral setting).
• Desirable: Previous experience within a clinical setting. Teaching experience relevant to the Higher Education sector.

Terms and Conditions
Salary will be Grade 6, £33,951 - £37,694 per annum. This post is full time and fixed term for up to 12 months from start date. The University of Glasgow has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
