Job Purpose

The Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence is a collaborative initiative between the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh that brings together researchers, clinicians, technical specialists, students, patient representatives and external partners to accelerate the development of novel therapies for glioblastoma. The Centre supports translational research, training and development, patient and public involvement, industry engagement and collaborative funding development across both institutions.

The postholder will support the operational delivery of the Centre's activities by coordinating projects, events, reporting processes, communications and stakeholder engagement activities across Glasgow and Edinburgh. Acting as a central point of contact, the role will facilitate collaboration across partner organisations, support the development of funding opportunities and ensure effective delivery of Centre objectives.

The role will work closely with the Centre Directors, investigators, professional services teams, patient representatives and external partners to support the continued growth, visibility and impact of the Centre.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • 1. Coordinate the delivery of activities across the Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence, supporting progress against agreed objectives, milestones and deliverables.
  • 2. Maintain project documentation, action logs and delivery schedules, monitoring progress against agreed timelines and following up actions with relevant stakeholders.
  • 3. Support effective collaboration between the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh by coordinating communications, meetings and shared activities across Centre workstreams and stakeholder groups.
  • 4. Identify emerging issues that may impact delivery and elevate these appropriately to Centre leadership, proposing solutions where relevant.
  • 5. Collect, collate and analyse information on Centre activities, outputs, outcomes and impact measures, preparing reports, presentations and briefing materials for Centre Directors, funders, governance groups and other stakeholders.
  • 6. Coordinate the delivery of Centre workshops, seminars, annual meetings, training activities and networking events, involving researchers, students, patient representatives, external partners and stakeholders.
  • 7. Co-ordinate Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) activities, including meetings with patient representatives, public engagement events and communication with Centre supporters.
  • 8. Support funding development activities by coordinating grant preparation processes, collating information from investigators and tracking funding opportunities, highlighting such opportunities to Centre Directors for awareness and action.
  • 9. Maintain engagement with industry and external partners, coordinating meetings and facilitating communication with relevant University professional services teams, including contracts, knowledge exchange and research support functions.
  • 10. Support dissemination of Centre activities and achievements through websites, newsletters, conference submissions, social media and other communication channels.
  • 11. Monitor Centre activities and gather information on outputs, outcomes and impact measures to support reporting and future funding applications.
  • 12. Act as a key point of contact for Centre operations, maintaining effective working relationships across partner institutions and ensuring activities are undertaken in accordance with relevant University policies and procedures.
  • 13. Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the grade of the post.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience

Knowledge/Qualifications

Essential

  • A1. Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) Level8 (Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4, Higher National Diploma) or equivalent professional qualification, or relevant experience in project management, programme coordination, research management or a related area.
  • A2. Working knowledge of project management principles and techniques, including planning, monitoring, risk management and reporting.
  • A3. Understanding of collaborative research, higher education, healthcare, public sector or charitable research environments.
  • A4. Knowledge of stakeholder engagement and partnership working.

Desirable:

  • B1. Professional project management qualification (e.g. PRINCE2 Foundation, Agile, APM or equivalent).
  • B2. Knowledge of biomedical, translational or clinical research environments.
  • B3. Understanding of Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE).

Skills

Essential:

  • C1. Excellent project coordination and organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously.
  • C2. Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • C3. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop productive working relationships across institutions and disciplines.
  • C4. Ability to organise meetings, workshops, training events and stakeholder engagement activities.
  • C5. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and implement practical solutions.
  • C6. Ability to prepare reports, briefings, presentations and project documentation to a high standard.
  • C7. Experience using Microsoft 365 applications and online collaboration tools.
  • C8. Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • C9. Ability to prioritise workload effectively and meet competing deadlines.

Desirable:

  • D1Academic/Industry research skills and background in genetics/molecular biology/clinical operations/oncology.

Experience

Essential:

  • E1. Experience supporting or delivering projects involving multiple stakeholders and workstreams.
  • E2. Experience organising meetings, events, workshops or training activities.
  • E3. Experience maintaining project records and preparing reports or management information.
  • E4. Experience working collaboratively across teams and organisational boundaries.

  • F1. Experience working within a university, NHS, research institute or charity-funded research environment.

  • F5. Experience supporting funding applications or research grant development.

Terms and Conditions

Salary will be Grade 6, £33,951 - £37,694 per annum pro rata.

The grade for this position is Grade 6, £33,951 - £37,694 per annum pro rata. Please note that due to limited funding availability for this position, the salary range on offer is up to £36,636 per annum pro rata (Grade 6, spinal point 28)

This post is part-time (21 hours per week) and fixed term until up to 31 October 2029.
