Job Description:
Job Purpose
Work flexibly as part of the Zone Facilities Services Team to provide cleaning services, ensuring facilities are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition. Deliver responsive, customer-focused cleaning and facilities services demonstrating teamwork, high productivity, and quality of service.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Customer Service
- Deliver friendly, proactive cleaning support.
- Respond to enquiries from staff, students, and visitors, resolving problems positively.
- Maintain a professional image, wear protective clothing, and promote the University\’s values.
Operational
- Provide planned and reactive cleaning to meet service standards, including cleaning surfaces, floors, sanitary ware, and waste disposal.
- Support emergency cleaning and spillages following procedures.
- Assist with gritting and snow clearing when required.
- Use equipment and materials efficiently, report faults, and restock consumables.
- Coordinate with Facilities teams to ensure seamless service and excellent customer experience.
Health & Safety
- Follow safe work practices, use protective equipment, and adhere to security policies.
- Report security breaches and emergencies, assist with fire safety procedures.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Experience
Knowledge /Qualifications
- Ability to demonstrate relevant competencies or minimum Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 3 in English and Mathematics.
- Knowledge of cleaning or facilities duties and understanding of quality standards.
- Ability to achieve University training certificates.
- Understanding of health and safety policies, including fire safety and manual handling.
Skills
- Safe operation of cleaning equipment.
- Numeracy, communication skills, and customer care skills.
- Self-motivation, organization, and willingness to learn.
- Manual handling skills for porterage duties.
Experience
- Previous cleaning or facilities experience is advantageous but not essential.
- Experience in customer service and liaising with service users.
Terms and Conditions
Salary: Grade 2, £21,900 per annum, pro rata, plus 6% shift allowance. Part-time, 17.5 hours/week, open-ended. Shifts: 06:00 – 15:45, Saturday and Sunday.
