Duties of the Post:

  • The main duties of the post will include physical effort such as standing for long periods, walking distances, pushing and pulling, and climbing stairs.
  • The cleaning and preparation of various areas in the academic and associated buildings such as seminar rooms, offices, male and female toilets, corridors, lifts, laboratories, meeting rooms, and gymnasiums.
  • To carry out various types of cleaning tasks so that cleaning specification standards are achieved.
  • Replenishment of consumables such as soap, hand sanitizer, and toilet rolls.
  • Cleaning of external areas.
  • Refuse and recycling collection.
  • Fault reporting.
  • The operation of mechanical cleaning equipment (following suitable training).
  • To provide cleaning cover across all University buildings including the residential buildings as and when required by management.
  • Responding to emergency cleaning requests including the clear up of floods, offensive waste, and sharps.
  • Participation in all training that is deemed to be necessary by Soft FM Services.
  • To provide support when necessary to all other Soft FM Services groups.
  • The use of ICT equipment for annual leave applications, self-certification etc.
  • Follow health and safety guidelines at all times, particularly: C.O.S.H.H (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health), P.P.E (Personal Protective Equipment), Working at Heights, Kinetic Manual Handling.
  • Ensuring that all cleaning materials and equipment are stored safely at all times and that only approved cleaning materials as detailed in the C.O.S.H.H register are used.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head of Soft FM Services or their nominee.
