The main duties of the post will include:

  • Physical tasks such as standing for long periods, walking distances, pushing and pulling, and climbing stairs.
  • Cleaning and preparation of various areas in the academic and associated buildings – seminar rooms, offices, male and female toilets, corridors, lifts, laboratories, meeting rooms and gymnasiums.
  • Performing various types of cleaning tasks so that cleaning specification standards are achieved.
  • Replenishment of consumables such as soap, hand sanitizer and toilet rolls.
  • Cleaning of external areas.
  • Refuse and recycling collection.
  • Fault reporting.
  • Operation of mechanical cleaning equipment (following suitable training).
  • Providing cleaning cover across all university buildings, including residential buildings, as and when required by management.
  • Responding to emergency cleaning requests, including the clean-up of floods, offensive waste and sharps.
  • Participating in all training deemed necessary by Soft FM Services.
  • Providing support to other Soft FM Services groups when necessary.
  • Using ICT equipment for annual leave applications, self-certification, etc.
  • Following health and safety guidelines at all times: C.O.S.H.H (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health), P.P.E (Personal Protective Equipment), working at heights, kinetic manual handling.
  • Ensuring that all cleaning materials and equipment are stored safely at all times and that only approved cleaning materials, as detailed in the C.O.S.H.H register, are used.
  • Carrying out any other duties as assigned from time to time by the Head of Soft FM Services or their nominee.
