Responsibilities include the following duties, some of which will require physical effort such as standing for long periods, walking distances, pushing and pulling, and climbing stairs:
- Cleaning and preparation of various areas in the academic and associated buildings such as seminar rooms, offices, male and female toilets, corridors, lifts, laboratories, meeting rooms, and gymnasiums.
- Carrying out various types of cleaning tasks to achieve cleaning specification standards.
- Replenishment of consumables such as soap, hand sanitiser, and toilet rolls.
- Cleaning of external areas.
- Refuse and recycling collection.
- Fault reporting.
- Operation of mechanical cleaning equipment (following suitable training).
- Providing cleaning cover across all University buildings including residential buildings as required by management.
- Responding to emergency cleaning requests including clear up of floods, offensive waste, and sharps.
- Participation in all training deemed necessary by Soft FM Services.
- Providing support when necessary to all other Soft FM Services groups.
- Use of ICT equipment for annual leave applications, self‑certification, etc.
Follow health and safety guidelines at all times, particularly:
- C.O.S.H.H (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health)
- P.P.E (Personal Protective Equipment)
- Working at Heights
- Kinetic Manual Handling
Ensuring that all cleaning materials and equipment are stored safely at all times and that only approved cleaning materials as detailed in the C.O.S.H.H register are used.
