The Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) is the senior academic leadership position responsible for student education and experience within the University. They are a member of the University’s executive leadership team and report directly to the Vice-Chancellor. The PVC (Education) has responsibility for shaping and delivering the University’s educational portfolio, which relates to both undergraduate and postgraduate education, and to the academic and the extra-curricular experience of the University’s students. They are responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of the education strategy, in collaboration with the broader educational leadership team, faculties, departments and other members of the University’s Executive Committee.
The Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) will serve in the role from as soon as possible, ideally from 1 October 2026, until the end of the 2026/27 academic year in the first instance.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop and implement strategies and policies to drive consistent improvements in the quality of the educational experience the University provides for its students.
- Provide institutional leadership for external quality, regulatory and reputational frameworks, including the Office for Students, TEF, QAA and Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies, ensuring the University is well positioned to respond to evolving sector requirements and opportunities.
- Shape and enhance the University's educational offer through research-informed teaching, practice-based and technical learning, enterprise and employability, educational innovation, AI-enabled learning, and streamlined, flexible models of delivery that maximise student choice, engagement and success.
What we are looking for:
- A distinguished academic record.
- Demonstrable success in a current or recent academic leadership role at Essex or another higher education institution.
- Experience of leading significant aspects of educational provision, curriculum development, quality assurance, student success or educational enhancement at Essex or a comparable institution.
