The Opportunity:

Our technical staff are essential to supporting the student experience, research and teaching. We are looking for a uCreate Student Technician to join the uCreate service in the Main Library Makerspace. This position will give the successful candidate the opportunity to engage and collaborate with makers from all reaches of the university's diverse community. Working in this ever-advancing environment of cutting-edge making and digitisation provides a great chance for learning and development.
uCreate provides equipment, advice, training and support to help students and staff develop creative and technical projects. In this role, you will provide practical support in at least two uCreate service areas, deliver engaging training sessions, help maintain equipment and contribute to the welcoming, collaborative day-to-day running of the makerspace. You will support users with different levels of experience and help them use equipment safely, confidently and effectively.
We are looking for a current University of Edinburgh student with a strong enthusiasm for making and exploring new technologies. You should have demonstrable expertise in at least two relevant service areas (digital manufacture, electronics, programming, 3D digitisation, 3D modelling, multimedia), excellent general IT skills, and the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and accessibly. You should also be organised, proactive, adaptable and confident working with a wide range of users.
