As part of our team, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of people who share your passion for creating positive change. About The Job

The Residential Life General Assistant supports the effective day to day management of the University of East London’s Halls of Residence. This role helps ensure our accommodation is safe and welcoming by assisting with estate operations, health and safety compliance, and customer service delivery. You will be involved in a wide range of responsibilities, from providing portering services, troubleshooting white‑good faults, facilitating access and room set‑ups, maintaining high standards of health and safety through inspections and delivering excellent customer service. Working as part of a customer‑focused team, you will play an important role in enhancing the student and guest experience, supporting compliance with standards such as the UUK Code of Practice, and ensuring our residences remain a positive and vibrant place to live and learn. This is a campus‑based role.

  • Experience of maintaining inventory and stock.
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices and a commitment to compliance.
  • Knowledge of operating white goods.
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to prioritise effectively.
  • A proactive, problem‑solving approach and a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and build positive relationships with residents and guests.

About You

The ideal candidate will be a proactive and dependable individual with a strong commitment to delivering excellent service. You thrive in practical, hands‑on roles and enjoy balancing operational responsibilities with resident support. With excellent communication skills, you can handle challenging situations calmly and fairly, ensuring positive outcomes for students, guests, and the wider Residential Life team.

Detail‑oriented and organised, you take pride in completing inspections, maintaining accurate records, and contributing ideas to improve the residential experience. You are flexible, a strong team player, and comfortable working independently when required. Above all, you are motivated by creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment that enables students to thrive and guests to feel at home.
