Lee Lab investigates the molecular basis of drug resistance in

Plasmodium falciparum, the human malaria parasite, working to uncover the mechanisms that allow the parasite to evade treatment. Using cutting-edge molecular genetics tools, including CRISPR/Cas approaches, the lab aims to identify new therapeutic targets and develop platforms to profile antimalarial compounds and their resistance profiles. As members of the Gates Foundation-funded Malaria Drug Accelerator (MalDA) Consortium, the lab collaborates internationally to accelerate the discovery of the next generation of antimalarial drugs.

About the Faculty of Life Sciences

The Faculty of Life Sciences is internationally recognised for world-leading research in biological and biomedical sciences. Our work explores the molecular and cellular mechanisms underpinning health and disease, with impact across human, animal and environmental systems.

We are home to a collaborative community of over 600 academic and professional services staff and more than 100 doctoral researchers, supported by high-quality facilities and a culture that promotes innovation, integrity and inclusion.

Our research-led teaching supports undergraduate and postgraduate students, equipping them with the knowledge and skills for future careers. We also have a strong track record of translating research into real-world impact, including successful spin-out companies.

About the Role

An opportunity is available for a motivated

Research Technician to join the Lee team, supporting our work to identify and understand the mode-of-action of antimalarial compounds. The goal is to optimise drug profiling assays using libraries of barcoded parasite lines, use these assays to profile antimalarial collections, as well as construct additional transgenic parasite lines using CRIPSR editing to expand the parasite screening library. The role spans both experimental and computational work, including minION-based amplicon sequencing and data analysis. The ideal candidate will have expertise in parasite or cell culture, as well as experience with bioinformatics. The successful candidate will communicate effectively with a range of internal and external collaborators. Excellent communication and organisational skills, and an enjoyment of collaborative working, are essential
