The University of Dundee's Main Library is a busy central hub of academic learning, where students and staff access support services, books, resources, IT suites, a CreateSpace and Cafe. It is a safe, inclusive, and supportive study space open from 8 am – 2 am daily throughout the year. The Main Library receives over 680,000 visits annually and was rated top in Scottish Universities in the 2024 National Student Survey.
Responsibilities
- Provide a visible, welcoming, and approachable presence throughout all areas of the Main Library.
- Answer and triage enquiries, directing patrons to appropriate service support and information in a friendly manner.
- Maintain a sense of ownership of library spaces, proactively monitoring and reporting on all building and maintenance issues.
- Ensure all library spaces provide a safe and comfortable study environment for all patrons.
- Act as the primary point of first aid in the building and as Fire Warden in case of building evacuation.
- Monitor secure access to the Main Library and other library spaces.
- Carry out operational library tasks involving stock and computer-based activities.
- Work a shift pattern that includes evenings, weekends and open/close of the library securely throughout the year.
Qualifications
- Experience in a customer‑facing, library or academic environment.
- Commitment to upholding regulations and working with patrons to ensure compliance.
- Understanding and compassion in emergency or wellbeing support situations.
- Dependable team member with comfort in performing stock activities and computer‑based library tasks.
- Represent all library services by being friendly, responsive and prompt in responding to requests.
