Applications are invited from general surgery specialty trainees or individuals with a Core training (or equivalent) background who show outstanding potential to become a clinical academic leader. The role will provide clinical training in general surgery and an excellent opportunity to develop a research portfolio within the University of Dundee’s Division of Surgery at the Ninewells Hospital & Medical School site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete specialty training in general surgery, meeting all required competencies.
  • Allocate 20% of time to developing a research programme and contributing to the dynamic research activities at the Division of Surgery.
  • Transfer to an East of Scotland Deanery National Training Number (NTN) and hold an honorary clinical appointment as a Specialty Trainee in general surgery.
  • Engage with the Scottish Clinical Research Excellence Development Scheme and related initiatives.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Current National Training Number holder in the relevant specialty (general surgery).
  • Demonstrated interest and potential for academic development and research.
  • Commitment to completing the remaining specialist training programme (up to 5 years).

Training & Development

The post is part of the Scottish Clinical Research Excellence Development Scheme and is offered for the duration of the remaining specialty training, i.e. up to 5 years. The postholder will gain extensive exposure to both clinical practice and academic research within a supportive environment.
