Our Campus Life and Student Living department is responsible for essential services that significantly impact the student experience. Campus Life is all about the various services that enhance the overall student experience, including sports, recreational facilities and community engagement. Our Student Living teams ensure the safety, comfort and compliance of the University's residential estates. Whichever team you become a part of; student experience is our focus!
About the Role
As a Security Team Member at our picturesque Buxton Campus, you will play a vital role in creating a welcoming, secure, and supportive environment for our staff, students, and visitors. You’ll be a trusted point of contact; offering advice, guidance, and reassurance while ensuring the safety and protection of the campus community. Your responsibilities will include responding to incidents, providing visible security presence, and assisting with access and safeguarding matters. You’ll also occasionally support our other University of Derby sites on an 'as and when required basis', contributing to a wider sense of safety across our locations. This is more than a security role, it’s about being approachable, alert, and responsive, making sure everyone feels safe and supported while on campus.
About You
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a calm, confident, and approachable manner - paired with a strong sense of responsibility and professionalism. We’re looking for someone who:
- Holds GCSEs at grades A–C (or equivalent) in Maths and English
- Has a security-related qualification or is willing to work towards one
- Possesses a full, clean UK driving licence
- Has experience delivering excellent customer service, ideally in a security or public-facing environment
- Is capable of conducting minor investigations and producing clear, accurate written reports
