About the team

The Media Studies curriculum at Buxton is designed to be learner-focused, offering a wide array of courses that cater to diverse learner needs.

Students benefit from hands-on experience in MAC suites, working with local employers to complete live briefs.

We are seeking a FE Lecturer in Media Studies to deliver high-quality teaching, learning and assessment for Level 2, 3 and 4 Creative Media qualifications.

This role is ideal for an experienced educator who is committed to inspiring learners, supporting their academic and personal development, and maintaining outstanding standards of teaching in line with professional and quality assurance frameworks.

The successful candidate will plan and deliver engaging lessons, assess student progress, provide effective academic support, and contribute to curriculum development and quality improvement initiatives.

You will work collaboratively with course teams, act as a personal tutor or course leader where required, and help foster a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Alongside teaching responsibilities, the role includes maintaining accurate student records, participating in staff development, supporting recruitment and marketing activities, engaging with employers and external partners, and ensuring compliance with safeguarding, equality, health and safety, and quality assurance requirements.

Please note this is a 0.4 FTE position (2 days per week – exact days to be discussed at interview).

The ideal candidate will be a learner-focused educator with a strong background in Creative Media and a passion for helping students achieve their full potential.

You will hold, or be working towards, a recognised teaching qualification alongside a relevant degree or professional qualification, with Level 2 English and Maths (or a commitment to achieving these within an agreed timeframe).

You will have experience teaching or training learners aged 16 and above, with a proven ability to deliver engaging, high-quality learning that meets national standards and supports excellent student outcomes.

A thorough understanding of Creative Media qualifications, current developments in education and training, and progression opportunities within the sector is essential.

You will be an excellent communicator with strong organisational and administrative skills, capable of managing competing priorities while working effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

You will demonstrate a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, safeguarding, widening participation, and continuous professional development, creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student can succeed.

The ability to lead curriculum initiatives or small teams, contribute to quality assurance processes, and build positive relationships with colleagues, employers and external partners will be highly valued.

Experience of programme leadership, internal and external verification, assessor/verifier qualifications, or relevant industry experience within Creative Media would be advantageous.

• To be responsible for developing and co-ordinating a specific programme or development within a programme area or across the University.

• To take an active part in all extra curricula activities, including open days, recruitmenteventsand external moderation processes.
• General Duties
• To undertake suchclasscontact duties for the grade as are laid down in the University FE Academic Contract.
• To teach effectively (including the necessary preparation) using a variety of methods onappropriate programmesas directed by the subject Curriculum Leader.
• To maintaincurrency with and operate within the demands of the Common Inspection Framework.
• To assess and record students’progress on a regular basis byappropriate meanse. g. marking, profiles, learning agreements, action plans, records of achievement etc.
• To respond to the personal and social needs of students in the learning situation.
• To prepare programmes of work and lesson plans, set assignments, tests, examinations, marking schemes.
• To ensure that allappropriate administrativerecords are accurately completed andmaintainedin accordance with Universityprocedures, e. g. enrolment forms, attendance registers, student Individual Learning Agreementsor training plans.
• To ensure that students behave in a responsible manner to a high standard of safety in classrooms, practical areas and around the University campus.
• To ensure relevant links with outside agencies, education support services, parentsand employers.
• To undertake any other administrative and teaching duties which may, from time to time, reasonably berequiredwithin the general level of responsibility of the post, as agreed with the Curriculum Leader.
• To comply withthe requirements of Health & Safety, other relevant legislation and University documentation.

• Hold or be working towards a teaching Qualification e. g. BEd, Cert. Ed., DTLLs or equivalent
• Relevant degree or professional qualification or equivalentexperience
• Level 2 Qualifications (either in Functional Skills or GCSE A-C) in both English and maths or a willingness to achieve within an agreed timescale
