About the External Relations Department
The External Relations department brings together student recruitment, marketing, PR, social media, profile and reputation management, development and fundraising, alumni relations and stakeholder engagement into one dynamic, expert function. The team is responsible for telling the University’s story in the UK and internationally – shaping how we are seen, understood and experienced by our audiences.
Design Team
The Design team are responsible for creating assets (including PowerPoint templates, social graphics, screens and prospectus content) and ensuring brand consistency across the University.
Digital Creative Developer – Role Summary
- Lead the design and building of high‑quality, responsive HTML email templates that perform consistently across all major email clients.
- Produce reusable, modular templates meeting brand, accessibility and best‑practice standards.
- Support wider digital design activity across social, web and campaign channels, working closely with Design, Content and Student Recruitment to deliver integrated, user‑focused creative.
- Manage an email marketing platform, carry out quality assurance and testing, and use insight and performance data to continually improve engagement.
- Act as a subject expert, providing advice and support to colleagues; no direct line management responsibilities.
- Provide flexibility, including occasional evening and weekend work for key University events such as Open Days, Clearing and Graduation.
- Develop specialist expertise in email development and digital campaign delivery within a large, collaborative organisation, while helping shape digital creative standards across the University.
Qualifications
- Strong expertise in building responsive HTML email templates from scratch using tables and inline CSS.
- Deep understanding of email client limitations, including Outlook rendering and mobile optimisation.
- Experience working with email marketing platforms such as Dotdigital or similar.
- Strong visual and digital design skills; confidence using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
- Experience creating reusable, modular email components, carrying out quality assurance testing, and managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- Degree in Graphic Design, Web Design or a related discipline (or equivalent experience) and proven experience in a similar‑level role.
- Excellent organisation, communication skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
