About the College/Department

Our Campus Life and Student Living department is responsible for essential services that significantly impact the student experience. Campus Life is all about the various services that enhance the overall student experience, including sports, recreational facilities and community engagement. Whereas our Student Living teams ensure the safety, comfort and compliance of the University's residential estates. Whichever team you become a part of; student experience is our focus!

Our security team are key to the University’s success. Generally being the first interaction our customers and visitors will have with us, the service they receive will shape their experience.

About the Role

You will be responsible for providing a welcoming, safe and secure environment, whilst encouraging all site users to promote a secure environment through their own conduct. You will also be responsible for providing advice, guidance, and support on all security related matters, across multiple sites, ensuring continued excellence in performance, profile and service at all times. Your role will be key to ensuring excellent security services delivery and pivotal in leading our security services delivery.

Working Pattern

The full-time working hours for this role are 42 hours per week working on a rotational shift pattern of 4 on, 4 off. The shifts will be 12 hours, and a combination of Early (05:00 til 17:00) and Late (14:00 til 02:00) shifts. Please note this working pattern is for 37 weeks of the year.

Salary

The advertised salary is for 52 weeks of the year inclusive of a 10% shift allowance. Your actual salary for 37 weeks of the year, inclusive of a 10% shift allowance and holiday accrual will be £26,193 per annum. Please note that as holiday accrual has been included in the salary, you will not be able to book additional annual leave.

Term Dates for Academic Year 26/27

  • Term 1 – Monday 17th August 2026 – Sunday 13th December 2026
  • Holiday – Monday 14th December 2026 – Sunday 3rd January 2027
  • Term 2 – Monday 4th January 2027 – Sunday 21st March 2027
  • Holiday – Monday 22nd March 2027 – Sunday 4th April 2027
  • Term 3 – Monday 5th April 2027 – Sunday 14th June 2027
  • Holiday - Monday 15th June – Monday 16th August (TBC)

Term and Holiday dates for each academic year will be provided prior to the end of term 3 of the previous academic year.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need a full, clean UK driving licence to support operational flexibility. You will have demonstrable experience in team-oriented environments, where collaboration and effective communication were key to achieving shared goals. You will have worked in a fast-paced security setting, with hands-on experience or a busy customer facing role. Your background will include delivering front line security or customer service experience. Ideally, you will have planned and delivered proactive patrol strategies, aligned to specific risk profiles, and adapted them as needed based on dynamic security demands.

Furthermore, you will be proficient in compiling comprehensive reports, as well as conducting initial investigations into security breaches or incidents of crime. Your analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to remain calm under pressure will be essential in contributing to the safety and integrity of the organisation.
