Careers and Employability Service
The Careers and Employment Service support University of Derby students with reaching their career ambitions. We are dedicated to helping students gain the skills, knowledge and confidence they need to achieve a positive Graduate Outcome through in-curriculum delivery, tailored appointments, digital resources, on-campus events and industry connections. We are available to all students from the first day of their university journey, up to three years post-graduation. As an Applied University, real-world learning is embedded across all programmes. The Careers and Employment Service encourage and supports students to secure further industry experience from internships and placements to boost their employability and career prospects. We provide guidance to academics on impactful employability activity and curriculum delivery. The Team works closely with the wider Business Engagement and Employability Team to create valuable student development and recruitment opportunities with a diverse range of local, national, and global industry partners.
About the Role
To work within the Careers and Employment Service (CES) collating and analysing service data, student and graduate feedback, labour market intelligence, producing relevant reports and supporting digital marketing activities. This role is ideal for an undergraduate looking for hands-on experience in data analysis and marketing performance reporting within a higher education environment. The role includes working with CES colleagues to record, report interactions and activity, producing reports with full analysis to understand the impact of the activity. You will report into the monthly CES reporting to provide an overview of activity and shape the ongoing offer for students and graduates. This role will be part of the student / graduate pool within the Careers and Employment Service, working in our student facing spaces, offering first point of contact support and signposting. In this placement, you will gain hands-on experience in data analysis and digital marketing within a large and dynamic organisation. You will have the opportunity to work with CRM systems, reporting tools, analytics platforms, and digital campaign processes, building practical skills that are directly relevant to modern data-driven environments. Throughout the year, you will benefit from training, development opportunities, and mentoring from experienced professionals who will support your growth. This placement will provide valuable experience that strengthens your employability and prepares you for future roles in marketing, digital, or data-focused career paths. Please note, this role is only available to University of Derby second year undergraduate students who start their academic year in September. Students who are studying on a Student Visa will NOT be eligible to apply for this post unless a placement year is a mandatory stipulation of the course. This role is a fixed term contract for 10 months.
About You
You will be a University of Derby second-year undergraduate student with experience in administration, working with data, and producing clear written reports. You bring strong organisation skills, a methodical approach to managing competing priorities, and the confidence to work both independently and collaboratively across teams. You will have excellent communication and active listening skills, enabling you to engage effectively with students, recent graduates, and staff. You are comfortable following established procedures and demonstrate an understanding of data compliance requirements, including GDPR.
