About the College/Department

The School of Nursing and Midwifery is part of the College of Health, Psychology, and Social Care at the University of Derby. The School consists of four discipline areas: Adult Nursing, Mental Health and Learning Disability Nursing, Midwifery, Children's Nursing and Professional Practice, and Associate and Enhanced Healthcare Practice.

About the Role

Are you passionate about nursing education and ready to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals? The School of Nursing and Midwifery is seeking professional nurses, midwives, or nursing associates to join our dynamic team of Associate Lecturers in Nursing.

As an Associate Lecturer in Nursing, you will play a vital role in delivering high-quality teaching and support to our nursing students. On a sessional and flexible basis, your responsibilities may include:

  • Assisting with simulation-based learning to enhance practical skills.
  • Contributing to teaching sessions, both in-person and online.
  • Supporting and conducting assessments, ensuring fairness and academic standards.
  • Facilitating and delivering online learning modules to support flexible education pathways.

Actual hours and days will be described in a ‘Schedule of Work’ – to be discussed at interview.

About You

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a professional nursing, midwifery, or nursing associate qualification with current NMC registration, along with relevant experience in clinical practice or nursing education. Your strong communication and organisational skills will enable you to engage effectively with students, supporting their learning journey. You’ll be passionate about fostering an inclusive environment and committed to helping diverse learners succeed. While prior teaching experience is desirable, it’s not essential—we will support you to ensure you’re fully equipped to excel in this position.
