Senior Lecturer Forestry and Conservation in Ambleside

The Institute of Science and Environment is seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Forestry and Conservation to lead the Forestry Works Management Apprenticeship Programme. This is a temporary 1-year appointment with the opportunity for renewal.

We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated individual with strong communication, organisational and networking skills who is passionate about Forestry/Conservation and is able to foster a culture of quality and enhancement. The successful candidate will ideally have a Forestry background, and the ability to demonstrate lecturing experience in this area at the HE level.

The post holder will be required to contribute to the academic team through delivery of core forestry in this and other forestry programmes. They will also be expected to actively engage with professional and pedagogical research and scholarship to support teaching activities and extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship and research to teaching.

As well as the requisite academic and technical skills, the post holder will be required to evidence their ability to work as part of a team demonstrating skills in project and time management and a passion for teaching and learning.

Ideally, they will have experience of apprenticeship delivery and understanding of the additional quality assurance processes required to meet Ofsted requirements. The Institute is split across two sites, Ambleside and Carlisle, to suit the academic portfolio and delivery needs of the programmes.

The academic portfolio provides a range of undergraduate programmes including Outdoor Leadership, Outdoor Adventure and Environmental Studies, Geography, Forestry, Woodland Ecology and Conservation and Ecology and Wildlife Conservation at our Ambleside Campus and Biomedical Science, Chemistry and Zoology at our Carlisle Campus. Additionally, we deliver a degree apprenticeship in forestry, have a developing postgraduate taught provision and a growing postgraduate research community.

The post holder will join in the delivery of our existing programmes and contribute to the design and delivery of future planned developments, making the most of the opportunities offered by our location at the University’s Ambleside campus.
