Overview

Are you looking for a hands-on role in a friendly team where no two days are the same? The University of Chester is looking for a General Assistant to join our busy Catering Services team.

Our kitchens provide meals for students, staff, visitors, and conference guests all year round, and we pride ourselves on delivering excellent service and high standards. This is a great opportunity to be part of a supportive environment where your work really makes a difference.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting the kitchen team to meet the objectives with the food preparation and service delivery according to the Food Safety Policy
  • Keeping the kitchen and food areas clean and safe.
  • Assisting chefs with day-to-day tasks when needed
  • Driving the departmental vehicle to deliver stock, supplies, and hospitality items (full UK driving licence required)
  • Helping to maintain high standards of hygiene and food safety at all times
  • Supporting the department on Events.

What We’re Looking For

  • Essential qualifications:
    • NVQ Level 1 (or equivalent, e.g. GCSEs/CSEs) and a current UK driving licence
  • A team player with good communication skills
  • Experience in a food preparation environment
  • Ability to listen, take direction, and work effectively with others
  • Flexibility, reliability, and willingness to learn

(Basic Food Hygiene Certificate and customer service experience are desirable but not essential.)
