Chaplaincy at the University of Chester is seeking a community-focused and creative Chaplain to join our team. As a small multi-faith team, we work closely together to achieve our strategic plan for Chaplaincy, focused on βcare and belonging β for all faiths and noneβ. To achieve our aims, we lead multiple activities and events to support staff and students and enable them to flourish. The role requires you to have a broad understanding of religion and belief, with a well-grounded and ongoing lived experience within a Christian tradition. As a Christian chaplain you will be involved in Chapel through regular weekly prayer and occasional services.
About the role
This is an in-person, practical, community-focused role based in our busy Community Hub in Chester. You will work with the team to lead and support activities such as wellbeing events, work in our wellbeing garden, food-related events, and creative arts initiatives. We are looking for someone with significant experience in community-building, excellent inter-personal and pastoral skills, and a thorough understanding of safeguarding. A background in education or health-related work is desirable but not essential.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and support activities to promote wellbeing and engagement across university community.
- Provide spiritual care and prayer, both in regular chapel and occasional services.
- Collaborate within a small multi-faith team to design and run community events.
- Maintain safeguarding standards and provide DBS and safeguarding training certificates.
Required skills and experience
- Broad knowledge of religion and belief.
- Experience in community-building, pastoral care, and safeguarding.
- Excellent inter-personal, organisational, and flexibility skills.
- Commitment to teamwork, self-motivated and collaborative.
- Desire to build inclusive communities; background in education or health desirable.
