The University of Lancashire and the American University of the Caribbean School of Medicine (AUC) have partnered to address the global doctor shortage through delivery of a new accredited medical qualification, the Doctor of Medicine (MD) programme. Building on a collaboration that began in 2017, the two institutions now offer a pathway starting with a two-year Postgraduate Diploma in International Medical Sciences (PGDip IMS) studied in the UK at the University; followed by a further two years study to complete the U.S. accredited MD degree with AUC while in clinical sites in the US or UK.
The purpose of the role of Principal Lecturer in Medical Sciences is to support the Deputy Associate Dean and the AUC Campus Dean by providing academic leadership, enhancing the achievement of excellent quality and performance standards, and contributing to the development and implementation of policies and practices to ensure effective deployment of resources for the PG Dip International Medical Sciences.
About you:
The successful candidate will be an experienced academic leader with a proven track record in programme and curriculum development . You will possess a good understanding of the global higher education landscape and have experience of liaising with external organisations and the ability to build and sustain relationships. A relevant undergraduate degree, a PhD in a related field, and a recognised teaching qualification or Higher Education Academy membership are essential. This position requires a high degree of autonomy, resilience, and emotional intelligence, alongside a collaborative mindset and a commitment to developing people and teams. Excellent communication skills, strategic thinking, and fluency with digital tools and learning platforms are vital. Experience of the USMLE curriculum would be an advantage, as would knowledge and understanding of QAA and regulatory processes related to management of course quality and delivery.
