Scientific Associate (Fixed Term) role at University of Cambridge. Fixed term: 12 months. Department/location: Cancer Research UK Cambridge Institute. Reference: SW46532.

The CRUK Cambridge Institute conducts world‑leading science to positively impact cancer patients. In the Pre-Clinical Genome Editing team, the mission is to exploit technology to enable meaningful advances in understanding and treating cancer by adapting cutting edge technologies to generate biological insights. As a Scientific Associate you will join the highly specialised Genome Editing team and apply your expertise to genetic manipulation of complex, patient‑relevant model systems. You will work with researchers to bring technological solutions to important biological questions, supporting innovation in CRISPR technology in vitro and in vivo.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with research groups and core facilities to deliver high impact functional genomics projects.
  • Apply advanced CRISPR technologies (e.g., PRIME editing) in in vitro and in vivo settings.
  • Bridge project phases between in vitro CRISPR engineering and in vivo efficacy testing, ensuring continuity across systems and teams.
  • Contribute to novel technology adoption and continuous improvement of genome editing capabilities.
  • Operate with autonomy on research projects both in vitro and in vivo.
  • Demonstrate expertise in PRIME editing and other advanced CRISPR technologies.
  • Work with murine models, particularly GEMMs, as required.
  • Proficient with tools such as CRISPResso2, PRISM, and SnapGene; strong molecular biology skills (primary cell culture, electroporation, plasmid design, cloning, lentivector work, western blotting).
  • Demonstrate proactive, adaptable, and enthusiastic learning of new concepts and technologies.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and researchers to translate technical solutions into actionable research outcomes.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Experience with advanced CRISPR technologies and genome editing in vitro and in vivo.
  • Prior experience with murine models, particularly GEMMs.
  • Literate with CRISPResso2, PRISM, and SnapGene software.
  • Robust molecular biology expertise (primary cell culture, electroporation, plasmid design, cloning, lentivector) and data interpretation skills.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills; ability to work across teams.
  • Eligibility to live and work in the UK.
