We are pleased to invite applications for a Research Assistant position under the supervision of Professor Florian Hollfelder in the Department of Biochemistry. There are two full-time positions available.

The project focuses on the discovery of novel catalytic peptides and proteins, emphasizing the fundamental principles that define the origin of life. Techniques include ultrahigh throughput screening in microfluidic droplets to identify new functional peptides and proteins in large libraries inspired by nature and human design. The project also involves analyzing features such as catalytic promiscuity and conformational diversity, which contribute to evolvability and efficiency. Deep sequencing data from droplet screening will be interpreted using machine learning/AI approaches alongside classical physical-organic, structural, and mechanistic methods to discover novel solutions for sustainable biocatalysis.

Qualifications: Candidates should hold a BSc degree in Biochemistry or a relevant subject.

Duration: This is a fixed-term position initially funded for 6 months.
