Applications are invited for a research assistant position in the Reisner group in the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry, University of Cambridge. The assistant will be involved in a range of projects in the group and will provide practical laboratory support for research activities in chemistry, including synthetic and materials chemistry, biochemistry and microbiology.

Responsibilities

  • The role holder will work alongside researchers and receive hands-on training for all duties, including routine biochemical and microbiological tasks (such as preparation of buffers, cell culturing and protein purification), instrument setup and calibration, and some routine chemistry laboratory work.
  • The assistant's duties will also include maintaining laboratory equipment, managing stocks and inventories, coordinating waste disposal, and working proactively to ensure that the research areas are safe and well organised.

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will have practical laboratory experience in chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, or a related discipline; good interpersonal, organisational and IT skills; and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Candidates should be educated to first or Master's degree level in a relevant subject, or have equivalent practical experience.
