The research team of Professor Eric Miska is recruiting a Research Assistant in the area of RNA biology. We are an international, supportive and collaborative research group. Our projects cover RNA modifications and structure; small- and non-coding RNA biology; RNA in communication and defense; genomics, epigenomics, and inheritance; and adaptive plasticity and evolution. The team works on miRNA biology and pathology, miRNA mechanisms, piRNA biology and the germline, endo-siRNAs in epigenetic inheritance and environmental conditioning, small RNA evolution, and the role of RNAi in host–pathogen interactions. We are part of the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Cambridge and are affiliated with the Gurdon Institute and the Wellcome Sanger Institute. We have access to state-of-the-art facilities for experimental and computational work. We are looking for a new team member to work on the role of non-coding RNA in tumorigenesis.
Responsibilities
- Work on the role of non-coding RNA in tumorigenesis.
- Perform mammalian cell culture: culture and maintenance of mammalian cell lines, lentiviral delivery of RNA or DNA into cultured cells, and the application of functional assays such as cell viability and proliferation assays.
- Apply RNA-focused methodologies, including single-molecule RNA fluorescence in situ hybridisation (smRNA-FISH) and bulk and single-cell RNA-sequencing analysis.
- Work both independently and as part of a team with strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
- Contribute to independent research projects and engage in a diverse, interdisciplinary research environment.
Qualifications
- Hold, or be close to finishing, a Master’s degree in an appropriate field (e.g. Molecular Biology) with relevant experience at an equivalent level.
- Hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture techniques, including culture and maintenance of mammalian cell lines and lentiviral delivery.
- Experience with functional assays (e.g., cell viability and proliferation assays).
- Experience with RNA-focused methodologies, including smRNA-FISH and RNA-sequencing analysis (bulk and single-cell).
- Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills; ability to work independently as well as in a team.

Fixed-term position: funds are available immediately until 30 September 2026, in the first instance.
