Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Part-Time Assistant Teaching Professor who will act as the module leader for the MPhil in Engineering for Sustainable Development's Client Project and contribute to other aspects of teaching and management of the programme. The role will be based at the Department of Engineering's Central Cambridge site.
The Engineering for Sustainable Development MPhil course is a one-year taught master's programme designed for graduates who want to help tackle pressing global problems by developing practical engineering solutions. Graduates of the MPhil programme will be equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to meet the challenges of engineering work in a sustainable development context. It is not an engineering course, but rather a course for engineers which aims to fill in the missing pieces necessary for understanding the contexts for those solutions. The course admits an international cohort of 20-30 students from a range of engineering backgrounds and aims to support them in becoming more effective change agents for sustainable development. A majority of the students on the programme have some postgraduate or practical experience of Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Deliver the Client Project Module and contribute to all aspects of the programme including teaching, supervision, admissions and assessment.
- Provide specialist contributions covering resilience and social science methods relevant to engineering practice.
- Engage with a diverse range of stakeholders and represent the Engineering for Sustainable Development programme to students, the wider University and externally.
Qualifications and Experience
- Educated to PhD level, or with related equivalent experience, in topics relevant to sustainability and resilience.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience leading short-term consulting, research or advisory engagements and familiarity with academic assessment norms at a Masters level.
- Ability to present effectively in spoken and written form.
- Demonstrated attributes to represent the programme to students, the University and external bodies.
- Experience in practicing research at the intersection of sustainability, resilience and engineering would be welcome.
Contract and Terms
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 20 months in the first instance.
