The Department of Medicine is seeking to appoint a highly motivated Accounts Manager to join its busy finance team. The post-holder will be responsible for 2-3 direct reports and will manage a varied range of financial activities across the whole Department. This will include the monitoring of complex general ledger accounts and an expanding multi-million-pound research budget built from many different funding streams, whilst adhering to strict financial policies.
The Department of Medicine is the largest within the School of Clinical Medicine and is based in various buildings across the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The Department houses 4 sections, with around 300 active grants across them. Research is the major focus of the Department; however, we are also heavily involved in clinical student education and run successful MPhil and PhD programmes.
Responsibilities:
- Report directly to the Finance Manager and be a key member of the Department's finance team.
- Monitor complex general ledger accounts and manage a multi-million-pound research budget funded from multiple streams.
- Line manage 2-3 direct reports and contribute to a high standard of financial control and accuracy.
- Work with a wide range of stakeholders within and outside the University, demonstrating excellent communication skills.
- Maintain adherence to Departmental and University financial policies and procedures.
Qualifications and experience:
- Accountancy qualification or relevant skills and financial management experience.
- Ideally with line management experience.
- Experience working with research grants and funding bodies.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage time effectively, and maintain a high standard of accuracy.
- Interest in a varied role within University financial management.
Other details:
The role is based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, and the successful candidate will adopt the Department's hybrid working model. This post is offered on a fixed-term basis in the first instance, covering a secondment to 30th September 2026, with the potential for a longer-term extension after this date.
